Functional Health Testing
General Pathology Testing
General Pathology Testing may be required to assess health for Naturopathic consultations.
Pathology Testing is through QML Pathology Labs with a Pathology Request form. This can be provided during a consultation with a Naturopath, of Buderim Natural Health and Massage, or testing can also be done through having an appointment with your GP (assuming your GP agrees). Copies of any previous pathology or tests may be helpful.
Pathology is not covered by Medicare through a Naturopath hence tests will incur a charge. We will always discuss what pathology is recommended with you and the cost. Pathology testing is only required if symptomatology is unclear and warrants testing.
Hair 500 Compatibility Analysis (also now known as ‘Hair 600’)
Already know that some foods, drinks, or even household cleaning products make you feel bad, or can’t put your finger on what it is? The Hair 500 Compatibility Analysis looks at over 600 everyday items.
We know that no 2 people are exactly biochemically and genetically alike, even identical twins, therefore not all foods and drinks are compatible for everyone. Health conditions can also impact our digestion and affect our overall health.
Elimination and Rotation diets are so subjective and can often confuse people, and in my experience, people lose motivation in trying to work out what exact items are the problem. So, I am now using a hair (or saliva) test that checks for the compatibility of over 600 foods, drinks, and household items. This is not an allergy test. I can discuss further testing as well if allergy is suspected.
The hair sample required is small (about 2cm) from any part of the body. Coloured hair does not impact the analysis. It takes about 1-2 weeks to get results. I get you back for a consultation and we review and discuss the results. Dietary advice is provided. Focus on what is compatible and can be eaten, not what is incompatible.
A mother and Baby analysis is also available looking at both mother’s items and a list of common baby items. Saliva is used for the baby’s sample.
A repeat test is recommended (though not compulsory) at 6months after avoidance of incompatible foods, drinks, and items to review progress.
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)
What is Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis?
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis is a non-invasive test measuring the levels of nutrients and toxic minerals, found in hair. It can detect an excess or deficiency of nutrient minerals such as calcium, magnesium, zinc or copper and also identify overexposure to toxic minerals such as arsenic, aluminium, cadmium, lead and mercury. HTMA provides reliable clinical data on over 35 nutrient and toxic minerals, and over 26 significant mineral ratios. Example : Cu:Zn.
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis is an analytical test that measures the mineral composition of hair. It is regarded by many Naturopaths, Integrative Doctors and Nutritionists as one of the most valuable screening tools available in everyday and preventative health care. This form of testing is currently utilised in legal cases as evidence of heavy metal loads. The HTMA Report measures minerals in parts per millions with the highest level of accuracy and reproducibility in the industry, with expertise that comes from testing over 1.5million samples.
Why use Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis?
HTMA allows identification of specific nutrient mineral imbalances and toxic element burdens. It enables treatment on a bio-individual basis. It is an invaluable screening tool and forms the basis of a treatment plan both in health management and prevention.
Why test for minerals?
Minerals are essential for growth, healing, vitality and wellbeing. They provide structural support in bones and teeth, and they maintain the bodies acid-base balance, water balance, nerve conduction, muscle contractions and enzyme functions. Minerals also participate in almost every metabolic process in the body – they are the true ‘spark-plugs’ of life.
Ideally we should get all the minerals we need from a balanced diet. Unfortunately, this is rarely possible in today’s world. Modern farming techniques, fertilisers and depleted soils reduce the mineral content of foods. Environmental toxins, chemical food additives and stressful lifestyles also have a detrimental effect on our nutritional status. Consequently, we need to test and monitor our nutritional needs more than ever. This data can highlight potential health problems and help you to treat them through a nutritional program designed to meet your individual health needs.
Results are available 10-15 days from the date Interclinical Laboratories receive the sample and payment.
